Hi, I am a current 2016 senior in high school. The colleges I am applying to and considering are 1) Penn State-UP 2) Ohio State-Main Campus 3) Rutgers University-NB 4) Fordham University-RH.
These are my grades that I ended junior year off with:
GPA: 3.8UW / 4.8W
Rank: 11/286
SAT: 1600/2400 taken once last spring. 480 Reading / 560 Math / 560 Writing. It’s a horrible score I know… I am retaking it this October (aiming around a 1800-1900) and have been working my butt off to boost it.
I’m also taking the ACT in late Oct.
EC: National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society (hold an office position - member committee chairman), Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Chinese Honor Society, 2016 Senior Class President, Freshman Peer Leader, Marching Band, Chamber Orchestra // seasonal job at a country club in the summers.
Academics: Have taken 18 total APs/Honors classes, 14 not including senior year.
I want to apply early action because OSU only considers merit scholarship if you apply early; Penn State is my first choice so I want to apply early for the Shreyers Honors College. The rest are early action too so if I get accepted I’ll know around the same time. My parents can afford up to 40k a year including room, tuition, and other fees. The MAIN thing is: is it worth applying to those colleges with those grades? I want to be able to boost it up, but I also want more scholarship opportunities and priority applications in my top choices. Please help!
P.S. my major is Marketing. No idea what to minor in, if there’s any suggestions for that too please let me know!
