Is it worth ED? Sort of borderline, interesting situation.......Chance me? (I'll chance back)

After looking through lots of great schools, I’m applying early decision to Cornell :). I would love to get into ILR or their premed program. This is what I’m currently working with

SAT- 2320 in a single setting (750 Reading, 790 Math, 780 Writing)
SAT II- 760-Bio E, 770- Math 2, 750- U.S History
ACT- 35 Composite (36 English, 35 Math, 34 Reading, 36 Science)
AP- 5’s- US History, Language and Composition, World History
4’s- Biology, Calc AB
3’s- Calc BC
PSAT- 221

GPA (3.4-5ish Unweighted, 4.1 weighted) Low I know ;( (This is what truly worries me about my application)

I have also taken several courses through Cornell University Summer College obtaining a College transcript GPA of 4.3

The Debate professor there, Sam Nelson, really liked me, wrote one of my Letters of Recommendation, and said he would guarantee a spot on the debate team if I made it in.

I take a very competitive schedule, especially compared to my local peers, with my current year line up including AP Stat, AP Literature, AP Spanish, AP Psych, AP Govt. and Politics, and AP Chem

Extra Curriculars

Supervising Coordinator for Volunteer Program at Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (Methodist Hospital) (~1000 hours)
Job Shadowing at University of Nebraska Medical Center
Various Bio labs at my local college
Organic Chemistry through MIT Courseware
Team Captain for Varsity Debate Team (placed 6th in state at Public Forum)
Policy Debate and British Parliamentary debate (Cornell)
National Honor Society
State Track (Discus, No medal)
Nebraska Boys State (2014 Speaker of House)
Various Internships (Loyd’s of London local branch here)
National Merit Semi Finalist
Student Ambassador Republican Party of Nebraska

I come from a relatively small town in Nebraska, and I’m just trying to make myself stand out. It may be worth mentioning I can pay for my college in full, no need for scholarships (although they are nice). I also may or may not be a legacy there seeing as I have a sister currently attending there as a junior.

Many thanks for the help guys!

You have very solid stats and a good mix of extracurriculars. Do you know if you are close to the top 10% of your class? You mentioned ILR or “pre-med” program, so does that mean you’re trying to decide whether to apply ILR or A&S / HE / CALS? What are your career goals?

I’m not top 10% :frowning: …I was thinking pre med but since all the courses I’ve taken there so far are in the ILR school I’d thought I’d apply there. The professor there writing my letter of Rec is from the ILR school, so thought it would be my best chance.

There’s very little that anyone here can say that you haven’t already said. Solid application, but the grades are a bit low.

I think you should definitely apply.

As to ED, If Cornell is definitely your first choice, you should consider it.

You definitely have a shot. Cornell looks at the applicant holistically. Your ACT and SAT are stellar!!
