Is it worth (in the long run) for me to go to college in Florida?

I am from Ohio, and I am sick of the Winters. I want warmer weather and a beach. The top Florida colleges are much better than the best of what Ohio has to offer.

I’ve visited Florida and I loved everything about it. That was when I was in 8th grade; I’m a Junior in high school now.

Is Florida facing any sort of dilapidation? Will I have a hard time finding a job in 2020? Is there any violence/crime I should be worried about?

I’m African-American if that matters. Not the stereotypical type though, I’m very smart, polite, and formal most of the time. My GPA is greater than 4.0.

So please answer my question to the best of your ability, please and thank you!

I don’t think UF and UMiami are any better than Case Western or Ohio State.

There is nothing wrong with colleges in Florida( most of them, mind you). I’m not a native Floridian but I will be starting in the fall at a state college. There are plenty of state colleges and a few good private ones to choose from. No one can predict the future but Florida is like the rest of the U.S right now, I expect it will improve by 2020. But Florida is really pushing science and technology, nursing is also huge. There is crime but its pretty normal, just know what part of town you are in, don’t worry about being African American.

Not true. UF and tOSU are both excellent.

I don’t know what you did when you visited. Bear in mind that vacation and ‘real life’ are very different in any place.

There is plenty of crime in Florida…and plenty of crime in Ohio as well. It all depends on the specific location.

You can definitely apply to schools in Florida. Also apply to in-state options. When your admissions and financial aid decisions come in, then you can make an informed decision. Do not get your heart set on anything until you have read the fine print.

If you are a junior, can you try and visit during the summer?

By the way, Florida can get real boring, real fast. Trust me, I live here. FSU is one of the biggest party schools for a reason, because Tallahassee is pretty boring. So is Gainsville.

Unless you go to UCF, where you have amusement parks like right across the street.

The heat sucks. It’s not “nice” heat, it’s humidity. Don’t think it’s all “fun under the sun”

The schools are good, mind you, so it’s not a waste of en education.

Going OOS is very, very pricey. Have you thought about how you’re going to finance it?

If loans is your answer then no, no, NO it’s not worth it.

If its any other college other than University of Florida and maybe Univ of Miami then its not worth paying the OOS…Most of the other Universities in Florida are average colleges where anyone can get in…My suggestion is to stick with Ohio State…your flagship research heavy state university
