Is it worth it? (subsidized loans)

It looks like I may need to use some of the loan money I have (I took out a $5000 subsidized loan a few months ago. It’s just sitting in the bank. I am disabled… don’t know if I’ll ever have a job. So does it make sence to finish the degree and end up $5000 in debt?

Are you attending school now? How are you paying for it if you are not using your loan?
While it can be more difficult to work full time with a disability, it isn’t impossible, you shouldn’t sell yourself short.

Yes. The GI BILL and financial aid. But my GI bill ran out. I’m only looking at $2000-$5000 in debt. I failed to mention disability money-- I an not eligible for SS disability beacuse I have not worked long enough. My thought is to work long enough so that I can get SS disability.

Why were you asking about job prospects if you have no intention of working?

How can you work long enough to get SS and then suddenly decide you can’t work anymore?

I work with many, many “disabled” people who have gone on to have great careers. As EK said, don’t sell yourself short.

Because I have a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder… as I age, more and more of my brain will die (just in the cerebellum though). Right now, I can still walk and speak, and it might be years until I’m wheel-chair bound. Eventually, I will be bed-ridden. My vision is also going.

Also, I have the option to simply not work. The neurologist says I can’t work full-time. I feel I can do some work, though…
