I go to a division 3 school, and was thinking of joining the cross country team next year. I did it in high school and I went to state one year. I didn’t do it my first year of college because I really wanted to explore my other interests, but I’ve found it hard to move past running because it is something I miss so much. I still run recreationally and in little road races, but it’s not the same. No matter what, though, I am not at college to be an athlete. I worked very hard to get into a really good liberal arts school and I want to take full advantage of it now that I’m here. I did find out that the commitment to the team isn’t too bad–there’s practice 3 days a week for 2-3 hours and the other days are on your own, so I’ll have time to do other things too. My question is if it’s really worth it to join the team. Running is my passion, and it is something I will never give up, and I’ll probably never have another chance after this to run on a team, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to keep pursuing my passion in college, or to use that time to get more jobs and internships and do other things that will matter more after I graduate?
