Is it worth it?

There are countless kids at my school who worked their asses off in the IB program for four years, doing extended essays, hours of homework each night, projects, internal assessments, basically stressing themselves out their whole high school careers. Not to mention they were in clubs, did tons of community service, debate, leadership roles, and all that jazz. Most of them are going to UF. I did practically nothing, joined no clubs, did no community service, got by with a 2.9. No homework at night, no projects. Basically a stress free junior and senior year. I am going to UCF, but was also accepted into FSU. Basically all these kids worked their butts off just to go to a slightly better university that will probably not affect how much money they will make later on in life. So I was just wondering, is all that worth it just to go to a more prestigous college?

Just curious. Why is UF considered better or more prestigious?

Really, the difference between FSU and UF depends on the program you want. While UF is currently the highest overall USNews rated university in Florida, it was not always that way. FSU and UF are the top rated public universities in Florida. Both are traditional, research-oriented universities, the “flagships” so to speak in the US News Tier 1.

To the op: just getting into a university does not mean you’re going to graduate. Working hard typically indicates better preparation, and thus getting more for your investment of time and money. Not all kids are the same, though, and many do quite well in the university environment. Some just flunk right out, too.
