Is it worth raising GPA and transfering?

Hi I go to a lesser known college with a 3.2 gpa. I have taken classes from a community college with a 2.6 gpa. I know I know I slacked off. But I am going to be a junior this fall and have 2 more years before finishing my degree. I want to transfer to UMich to get my computer science degree and wanted to know if it’s worth going back and retaking those classes to boast my GPA enough to get a 3.6 to transfer or should I stay and just complete my degree at this lesser known university?

Does it really matter because I plan on going on to grad school and I think that I have a better chance of entering a top grad school by graduating from Umich.

Thanks. Michael

That’s not really something we can answer for you. A lot of people would consider it worth it, a lot of other people wouldn’t. It’s really a matter of personal preference.

My first question is: are you willing to graduate in 5 or more years? Most universities require their transfer students to attend for at least two years. As a result, you’d have to apply as a rising junior, despite the fact that you are already a junior this year.

Also, boosting your GPA to a 3.6 doesn’t guarantee transfer. That might be the minimum GPA they recommend, but by no means is that the only factor. You’re taking a risk by going back and retaking these classes, as it might all be for naught.
