Would you rather go to a school that is top ten globally for your major but you hate every moment of it, or go to a school where you would love to be there but it only has local prestige?

Go to a school that is fun. College is all about the experience. Your college education only helps toward getting your first job. After that, it’s your experience that counts. You can still go to a great universities that you love. That’s what most state colleges are like in the US.

Are you learning anything? If not, then leave. If so, the rigors of school just might be worth it? GL

Is it worth doing anything you hate for four years? Only you can answer that question for yourself, but I’d personally say it’s not.

I made this choice four years ago. Went with the one I loved (Ok, maybe it’s a little bit more than regional but definitely nothing like what I turned down). I’ve gotten in to every grad program I’ve applied to (including 4 schools in the top 10 for my program) and I’ve received great merit aid to many of them despite being in a field that doesn’t give merit aid. I attribute it to thriving in the environment that I was most comfortable in.

Go where you love. I promise, nothing is worth being miserable for 4 years.

Judging from your previous posts/topics, don’t reason yourself out of attending UCSD because you want to party hard.

College is not about “fun”. It’s really disturbing to read about prospective students more concerned about spectator sports and active party-life than academic “good fit”. I’d wholly-heartedly recommend attending the academically-strongest school for your major/interest that admits you and can be afforded by you. “Fun” comes second. Try to live on-campus, and carve out a reasonable well-rounded college experience for yourself.

Workworld is now so competitive that the notion that college should be a five-year party college experience is obsolete. Look at the unemployment rates for recent college grads; it’s absolutely frightening.

Some of us believe that four years is a long time to be miserable.

No college is not about “fun” but it’s four years of your life. That’s a substantial time to waste just in the pursuit of a name on a degree IMO. Different people have different priorities.
