Is it worth trying?

Hello,

I’m an international student. I will be a senior this year and I want to apply to MIT, Stanford, University of Illinois etc. I haven’t taken SAT courses and today I started to study for SAT. I solved the offical practice test and I got crit. reading: 530 writing:580 math:800 . I know thats to bad for those universities but I have 2 months till the actual exam. Is it worth trying?

Always worth trying. Acceptance rate for students who don’t apply is 0%.

These schools are often looking for certain types of people to fill roles in their community, so try to raise your exam scores up a bit and give it a shot.

You’ll certainly need to work on those CR and W scores (esp. as an international student), but it’s worth trying.

Just so you know, my SAT scores before any prep were pretty similar to yours, and I’m at MIT now. I guess if the rest of your application is solid, but you’re just struggling on the pesky standardized test that doesn’t matter upon acceptance, I say go for it.

Another option is to try the ACT, if available.
