<p>I need two extra units, and I’ve narrowed it down to two options:</p>
<p>Integrative Biology 41: Marine Mammals with Prof. Lindberg: I took Marine Biology in high school and loved it, but on ratemyprofessors, Lindberg hasn’t gotten one positive review yet and everybody seems to hate him, which throws me off about this class. Has anyone taken thsi course? </p>
<p>L&S 1: I read about it, and I suppose it could be good for me because although I’ve declared a major I’m mentally undecided, but I’m a little doubtful as to whether I’ll learn anything valuable.</p>
<p>So it comes down to this: a course in an interesting subject with a (reportedly) lousy professor, or a random department-sampling course?</p>
<p>Yeah, L&S1 sounds pretty worthless, but don’t take a class with a lousy professor if you don’t have to. It’ll make you dislike the subject and you won’t be motivated to try in the class (or at least any motivation you have through interest in the material will be countered by the lack of motivation due to the professor).</p>
<p>^Yes. Don’t take classes with lousy professors unless you need the class to fulfill a requirement. If you can get into one, I recommend taking a seminar. They also have DeCals (classes taught by students on the randomest subjects) opening up in September. </p>
<p>I took L&S1 last fall. It was boring but wasn’t completely useless. Some of the guest lecturers (like Richard Muller for physics, Kevin Padian for bio) actually made me interested in subjects that I once abhorred. The class in general is pretty chill. There was a required reader but I never read it.</p>

<p>I’m waitlisted for an English freshman seminar, and I’ve been #1 on the waitlist since June, so I don’t think there’s a chance, but I’m staying on it just in case.</p>
<p>I know it’s kind of puny right now, but it’s a work in progress. All the freshman seminars are full, so I’m looking into DeCals.</p>
<p>Yeah, both Integrative Biology 41 and L&S 1 are two units, and I added them both to my schedule with the intent of dropping one, but clearly I should drop them both. Do you have any course recommendations?</p>
<p>I declared English but I’m not sure if I want to stick with that because I’m premed, so I may just switch over to IB. That’s still up in the air, though.</p>
