Thanks for your response ahead of time!

Can you do both, or only one? As for your original question, I have no idea.

The LAMP program is way harder and more prestigious.

From the LAMP website. FAQs

How does LAMP differ from a Business Minor?

Although the Minor in Business and LAMP share some common requirements, the two options are not equivalent. LAMP is an honors-level program that requires completion of a unique interdisciplinary course of study. Unlike students pursuing a Minor in Business, LAMP students are required to complete both ECON E201 and ECON E202. Students who participate in LAMP complete core business courses like BUS A100/A201, BUS K201, and BUS L201, but the special emphasis of LAMP is on management skills and interdisciplinary problem solving. LAMP students enroll in BUS Z302, Managing and Behavior in Organizations, and the LAMP-specific course, BUS X333, Managing Business Functions. Most importantly, LAMP students complete three LAMP seminars that are designed to integrate business skills with traditional liberal arts methodologies and approaches.

How does a certificate differ from a major or minor?

Students in LAMP must earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. In order to earn either of these degrees, students must fulfill basic degree requirements and they must select a major course of study (for example, Political Science, Biology, or French). In order to major in a subject, a student must complete approximately 27-36 credit hours in that subject matter. Additionally, many students choose to select a minor course of study, which typically requires between 15-26 credit hours of coursework. Students earning a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences must select a major, but they are not required to complete a minor.

The LAMP certificate, which requires approximately 36 credit hours of course work, is a supplement to the course of study that a student has chosen. The certificate is not a major or a minor, and a student cannot earn the LAMP certificate unless s/he also completes all College of Arts and Sciences degree requirements and major requirements. In short, the LAMP certificate cannot stand alone—it is intended to enhance a student’s chosen course of study in the College.

How will I earn the LAMP certificate?

In order to earn the LAMP certificate, a student must complete all degree requirements for a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences. Students are free to choose any major or minor (or combination of majors and minors) within the College of Arts and Sciences.

In addition to completing all degree requirements, LAMP students must also complete all courses required for LAMP with a C- or better, and students must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.3 or higher.

Going through the LAMP program is better than minoring. With LAMP, you major in management I believe and a liberal arts degree. I think this program is great if you’re more focused on your liberal arts(science, history, etc). LAMP students don’t take all the classes students on the regular business trek take, most notably I-CORE. This is one of the disadvantages if you go through LAMP instead of Kelley. However, LAMP is a great way to get exposure to business and open more doors for you career if your liberal arts degree doesn’t get you what you want.

THANKS for your response. Well, I’m an economics and statistics major, and I would like to do MBA after undergraduate… I’m just wondering which one between LAMP and minoring would provide me better exposure to business. I mean, none of them is going to be as much as majoring in business, but between those two, I’m just not sure…

I think the LAMP program would be way better and have more prestige if applying for a good MBA program. You will already have demonstrated strong math skills with the econ and stats majors and the LAMP program will give you a strong social component, as the program focuses on management and large social issues as they relate to business. The LAMP requirements overlap nicely with classes you are already taking (E201 and E202, math). If you are in Hutton you can take the honors business classes K204 and A205, which tend to grade higher than non-honors. LAMP seems a little risky, though, compared to the business minor, in that you need a 3.3 gpa at graduation to get the certificate, and there probably isn’t much grade inflation in econ and stats.
