Is Likely Letter only for Engineering college? How about math/applied math?

Just wondering if the likely letter of ~100 STEM people are only reserved for School of Engineering and Science?

Will math/applied math applicants be given likely letters this early?

Thanks and congrats to those lucky 100 LL holders.

They aren’t solely for Eng students – they are for whomever Yale feels would benefit from this extra sort of courting. In the past, a variety of students rec’d the LLs. Plus they don’t all go out at once.

But even all this is what Yale has done in the past. They could throw out that template if it serves their purposes. THere is no set protocol.

I was given a LL and I was a pure math applicant - didn’t apply to the school of engineering, and listed “Mathematician” as my desired career.

Hope that helps!

@straightchillin: did you compete in AMC/AIME/USAMO or do anything else math-related extracurricularly? Just curious

I was a USAMO Qualifier last year and a JMO Qualifier the two years before. Siemens semis for research, math summer programs, other random competitions (Mandelbrot? CMO? ARML captain?)…the list of math ECs was long, but USAMO/Siemens were (presumably) what mattered.
