I plan on applying to University of Pennsylvania, and I worry about sending them my standardized test scores. Although I’m retaking the SAT next week, I currently have a 34 on the ACT and a 2000 on the SAT. I know the ACT score is definitely good enough, but will my lower SAT score reduce my chances of admission?

The scores are separate and different. They measure different things. One can’t “compensate” for the other.

Most colleges take the higher score if you submit both. In other words, your SAT score literally does not matter if you did really well on the ACT, and vice versa.
Don’t worry. They will look at the better of the two. There are thousands of reasons not to perform well in any test, but there is only one good reason to score well.
Falcon1, UPenn website says SAT or ACT, so I’m not sure why you say both?? I would just send in ACT.
D had this situation last fall. 36 ACT and 2040 SAT. She read each colleges test policy very carefully and unless they categorically said send all scores, she only sent the ACT. Read their policy very carefully and interpret it in your favor.
Most schools do not require you to send all scores. I am not as familiar with ACT, but i know the College Board for the SAT has “Score Choice” which allows you to choose which test date you want them to send your scores to the specific schools you choose. For example, Michigan does not require you to submit all scores. However, some schools (like Syracuse University) require all scores to be submitted from all test dates. As Wje9164be said, you need to go on school’s website to see what each school requires.
For ACT, you pay for score report from each test. So it is automatic score choice if you not sending multiple score reports. There is no need to send both SAT and ACT unless the school asks you to do so like Stanford.
