I Have just gotten news that the D+ i got in Algebra 2 is preventing me from going to Humboldt State this coming fall. I am writing on this forum to ask if my appeal is a appeal you think they would accept. I had many family issues during the semester i got my D+ these where my mother having cancer and my Grandmothers death also my grandfather getting cancer right after my grandmothers death. I also had a flood in my home witch took me away from my natural environment and i was unable to focus. this all happen in a 6 moth period during my senior year of high school. i put all of this in my appeal letter but am not sure if it will make the committee change there minds. can someone maybe reinsure me and tell me if these are good reason that i got a D+ in math.

How were your other grades?

Can you suggest that if they do not want to let you start this semester that they will defer your enrollment for a semester or a year while you take classes at a community college? If you are successful at the CC, then perhaps they would let you transfer in.

The college is concerned if you have the initiative to push through. I would recommend that you try to have a face to face with a decision maker, in order to state your seriousness as a student. It would be helped greatly if you were to take a CC class in the same subject and do well. To be frank Alg2 is not a very high level class and your poor perfomance (whatever the reason) is raising red flags whether you have the academic tools to handle college – that’s what you need to counter in the college’s mind. My kid’s school has them taking Alg 2 in 9th grade.

Is it too late to retake the class at a summer CC session?

My other grades are ok i have an average of a 3.0 and yes i know algebra 2 is not a very difficult class and i usually get easy A’s in my math classes but i just happen to mess up because of all the problems i was going through. I guess i can try and contact the acceptance committee in person. Also i can’t take a summer class because the school will not accept the class
