Just got my SATIIs back. I got a 760 in MathIIC and a 700 in Biology (Molecular). I want to major in Biology, so is my bio score too low?

I’m guessing 700 is like 80th percentile or something? I personally would take it again and try to get above 750. But 700 is certainly not a score that would kill your chances.

No, probably not. I got in with a 700 in Math II and 710 in Physics. Really, anything 700+ is fine and won’t make or break you.

Although it would not be a bad idea to retake the Bio SAT II, I don’t think that score will hurt you. I got a 680 in Physics and was still admitted to Rice. Although test scores are important, Rice is one of those schools that take a more holistic approach to admissions. Keep your grades up and write awesome essays, and you should be fine.

I took World Hist, US Hist, and Lit and got 590, 720, 700 and still got in. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Rice is more holistic than quantitative, I will say that 700+ is pretty darn safe, so you haven’t got a lot to worry about. If you are confident that you could do better, it’s in your best interest to try again if you can. Then later you won’t wish you had.

Biology (Molecular) 712 175

that’s from the class of 2011, with 712 being the average score, and 175 tests taken.

For what it’s worth I got a 660 on Literature, and still got in

How did you do in the class? I’d look more at that, because 700+ on any SAT II is a decent (or great) score.

schee410, I got an A in the class for the year. I haven’t gotten my AP scores back yet.

Also, I’ve gotten Bs in math in sophomore and junior year because our advanced math courses are designed to be very difficult since my school has the best math team in the nation. Do you think my 760 in MathIIC and high score in the math section on the SAT will make my Bs look better?

No, don’t worry about that.

Well, the math sections of the SAT are designed to be simpler math. You don’t necessarily need higher-level math classes to do well on them. But Bs are good grades (especially in tough classes), a 760 is a good score, and Rice will take into consideration the fact that you took tough courses.

i think you will be ok. If you have time and feel like it, retaking the Bio SAT II cant hurt
