Is my daughter considered a California resident

My daughter who was born in California went to high school in Texas a private school and her California grandmother paid her tuition so that she could move back and live in California and go to college is she considered or can we apply to make her a California resident for college

California public universities base residency on where the parents live and pay taxes. What state do you live in?

Unless the grandmother is her legal guardian and she went to a boarding school in TX, probably not.

She has a Texas transcript and she is coming to California for “educational purposes” and not just to reside with California granny.

Granny hasn’t lived with the child, as her parent nor guardian in California. In other words, your child intends on going to school while in California, to take advantage of the schools. She’s not coming out to work only. She’s coming to school, that’s considered educational purposes.

She will be charged full fees for four years.

grandma may want to consider one of the many fine private colleges in CA…
