- Due to my internship and other extra-curricular involvements, I am discontinuing my involvement with Track… I’ve basically achieved all I have wanted to from Track and would like to focus my energies elsewhere.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks so much in advance!

If I were you I would not discontinue Track (and that’s huge for me to say bc I’ve done track for 2 years now and I absolutely HATE it haha)…I mean first in state in shotput?? That’s pretty awesome!! You may have a chance at being recruited?

I would say that you definitely have a very good chance at UChicago and Ivies as well. Your stats are very good apart from your ACT which is pretty lackluster…try the SAT?

Awesome job getting into NIH (I’m applying for next summer)!!

Great Job! Get that ACT score (34??) up and I’d say that you have a great shot

Your ECs are fantastic. Just write a very good essay and I’d be extremely surprised if you didn’t get in.

I second YellowDaisies about the Ivies. Depending on the quality of your essay, I’d say you could have a very good shot.

Also definitely try to improve your ACT/SAT score…it’s the only thing bringing your app down.

Thanks! I know my ACT is low. The sad part is that my ACT is actually higher than my SAT score, so I’ve decided to retake just the ACT and put a lot of time into preparing for it. Honestly, I went into it the first time not having specially prepared for it; I just took the exam the week after I took the SAT. I feel that I can raise my score significantly having prepared for the exam and knowing how the test is designed.

And, thanks YellowDaisies. As for track, the decision was whether I wanted to be able to intern out of school and either just be committed to track or be able to pursue my non-athletic extracuricular involvements. Academics and my other extra currics are much more important to me than track; although I’ve been approached by a few D1 recruiters, I have no desire to throw or run in College… I only got involved in track as a way to stay in shape. Moreover, good luck with the NIH application. I’m interning the National Cancer Institute… so far (I started in June), it’s been fun but it has actually proved to me that I would be better suited majoring in a social science-- I’m targeting IR/ Econ now (hence the renewed interest in U Chicago).

^ Oh hey that’s pretty cool
similar interests…I’m thinking about being an Econ major, Pre-Med. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get involved with the National Cancer Institute and NIH?

P.S. Good luck! Honestly, if you apply EA (or regular!) I would be very very surprised if you are not accepted. Just do well on your essays and make sure that UChicago knows that you love them. I’ve heard that demonstrated interest such as sending scores and applying early is key to UChicago, but I cannot confirm this.
