Is my first semester load impressive?

Note: My school does not have AP classes, nor “accelerated.” all classes are considered extremely rigorous

Art of the Essay (english)
Cold War (History)
Organic Chemistry
Ceramics (art cred)
Advanced Calculus

Colleges have your school profile next to them when they review your workload. Since your school offers no AP, and the classes are considered rigorous then you should be fine (they’ll see that you’re still challenging yourself). One thing to take into account is whether you’re challenging yourself into classes that relate to what you want to do in college later on.

It really depends on your school. Is four academic courses plus an arts course considered a normal load at your school? At my kids’ school (also a rigorous school with no AP courses), a normal load would be five academic courses plus an arts course; a typical schedule would be similar to yours but would also include a foreign language class.
