I also will have well over 500 community service hours when I graduate.

What I’m really concerned with though is my GPA. Will it be hurting my chances of getting into the schools I want to go to?

I’m certain I’m applying to UDub(Reach), University of Puget Sound(Target), and UMiami(Target, though I don’t really want to go to UM. It’s just for tuition sake because my mom is an employee of the university). I don’t know where else to apply though due to my GPA.

Thanks.

I go to UM… you will love it :)

@collegegirlRA I feel like I wouldn’t like UM because it would seem like a continuation of high school to me. I’ve always wanted to leave home. If I do end up going to UM though I would try to study abroad as much as possible.

haha I understand, I am the SAME way… finishing undergrad by next December and kinda excited to apply to other places. But if you do somehow end up at UM, shoot me a hello! :)

I do not think your GPA will hurt you in the long run because you’ve taken all those AP and Honors courses. I’ve heard (don’t quote me on this) that getting a C in an AP or Honors courses is the equivalent of getting a B in a regular class. If your GPA is a little lower with AP and Honors courses, it shouldn’t matter. The fact that you took the courses and challenged yourself is more important.

You have good ECs and all, i think having a better gpa would definitely help.

I have heard that as well (B in honors/AP = A in regular, C in honors/AP = B in regular and so on). I don’t know enough about the schools to comment on them, but that much community service makes you stand out.

Your GPA is fine, and your SAT score is really good too. Your EC activities care constant and really show your interest in one field which is good thing.

@CareerMom66 Is this in regards to how colleges weigh GPAs or course loads? Or just in the area where you live? Because at my school AP courses with a C (2) weighs as a B (3), but AP courses with a B (3) or A (4) weigh as an A+ (5) or A++ (6), respectively. Honors Courses of a C (2) B (3) or A (4) would weigh B (3) A (4) A+ (5), respectively. Is this similar?

@Soupdogg Would you suggest me waiting to apply RD to colleges in hopes that I can possibly raise my GPA in the first semester of senior year? How much do you think I canraise my GPA in just one semester?

@ArtsyGirl13 I have the same question for you that I had for CareerMom66 lol

@FantasyVesperia Thanks!

Does anyone have any colleges to suggest?

I think you should really go after UMiami. Its like the best one on your list that properly balances academics and social life. Plus, I think you will be able to get in if you write a really good essay.

Your EC’s are really focused on one area, which is VERY important. If you could raise your SAT a tad, you’d probably be good to go for any of those schools. Good luck!
Could anyone chance me for Princeton? I’ll return the favor. Thanks!

@hokurascholar I honestly do not want to go to UM for reasons previously stated. It’s more of a safety school (in terms of finance) to be honest. I’m going to be writing my essay on how I have used my brain tumor to propell me to succeed in life. Is this good?

@PrincetonPreppy I’m planning on studying for the next SAT with hopes of getting at least a 2100. And thank you, the same to you!

Forgot to mention that I would also be reporting my score on the U.S. History SAT Subject test because I feel it is relevant to what I want to study (Political Science and Government).

I scored a 750 on the exam.

Also considering majoring (double majoring?) in Accounting or any other Business/Finance related major.

Your GPA is obviously not the strongest, but defintely solid. Your SAT on the other hand will give you a boost, along with your outstanding Extracurricular activities. All in all, you will most likely be accepted to most of those schools mentioned, but I am not sure about Umiami. Apply to Boston U, Ohio State, Penn State, North Eastern, and George Washington. Best of luck, and continue to aim for those A’s! Chace me backk? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1366605-boston-college-transfer.html

Thanks! Do you happen to know anything about their business or economics programs?

I’m chancing you back now!
