I know it’s a reach, but I want to apply to UCSD next year with a 33 act and 3.75/3.83 UC GPA weighted. Is that too much of a reach and should I not apply at all or is it still worth a shot?

P.S.: Do not take anything on this site to heart. Apply to wherever you want. I almost didn’t apply to UCSD because people, on here, told me it was a high reach (I got in and planning on attending).

It really depends. What are your stats, your extracurriculars, your ethnicity, and what kind of community do you come from (suburban, urban, the ghettos)?
College admissions were really weird for c/o 2016, and everyone I know is either really salty or really confused. I’m Asian, and I come from a fairly affluent community. I applied to UCSD this year, and I got flat-out rejected. These were my stats:
GPA: 3.85/3.92 weighted
SAT: 2030
ACT: 32
Light extracurriculars
Decent personal statements
Both private and public colleges are changing what they focus on when they receive an applicant. It’s becoming more and more of a crapshoot to determine which college will accept you. My friend got rejected by UCLA, but got accepted by Berkeley. I would say nowadays, you have to be more well-rounded. It’s not all about GPA anymore; they’re focusing on different things. Don’t be generic. Don’t be cookie-cutter. You have to diversify your portfolio. Good luck.

I did track for 2 years and cross country for 3 years. I Was a Spanish tutor for a student for 2 years, until he stopped taking Spanish. Also, I am apart of a few clubs.
