<p>So I’m going to be transfering to a UC after three years of CC. I took many courses in interesting subjects, exploring different fields and such, and finally figured out what to major in. After my third year is complete I’ll probably have somewhere over 80 semester units, 20 more than the 60 needed to transfer. </p>
<p>Now does this hurt my chances on any of the grants? I’ll still be a junior after transfering because a lot of the coureses I took were out of interest. </p>
<p>Will I get less money simply because of intellectual curiousity? Was I suppose to know what I wanted to do straight out of highschool? I really hope the answer is no.</p>
<p>There may be some requirements, like SMART grant, which could be based on number of units, you might want to talk with a transfer director about whether all the units will count. For instance at UCB they have a rule of 120 sem units and you are out, but the AP units are optional in that mix.</p>
<p>I see, so it may be different for every school eh? It seems that there are two different unit systems, or maybe I’m just confused about them. Would the 120 semester limit be along the same lines as the 60 semester units needed for IGETC transfering? These unit systems are confusing. :(</p>
<p>For anyone planning to transfer to UCSD, I got the answers. Apparently UCSD is a lot less strict with it then other places, all transfer students instantly count as third year students, regardless of how many units they have. I suppose it’d be different for students transfering from universities to universities, I’m speaking strictly of transfering from a CC.</p>
