hi guys I just wanted some validation on my high schools competitiveness. I have a 3.98 GPA 4.02W (the highest GPA in our class is 4.12). I am barely in the top 5% about 27/500 but have only gotten 4 -A s and all the rest are A s. I have taken my ap classes are ap us history, ap physics, ap calc AB, ALP for grade 11 and 12 ( this is a class that combines ap English and ap s.s. So that you can take an extra class). So is it just me or is this a typical atmosphere?
Your school’s ranking/rating should tell you
It sounds competitive but grade distribution alone isn’t enough for me to say. Do a google search and look at your school profile. If mean ACT or SAT scores are significantly higher than national averages and if the vast majority of students go onto 4 year schools with many to highly selective 4 year schools than its competitive. Other factors are whether it has some form of selective enrollment and really the size. A good example of a selective school would be New Trier HS in a Chicago suburb
New trier high school is not a selective school, which has more than 4k students (8-12 grades) and covers the Chicago North Shore suburbs of Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, most of Northfield, and parts of Glenview ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Trier_High_School ). But it is one of best public high schools at Illinois. :)>-
