In the Spring off 2016, I took my very first AP exam for APWH. Today I got my results back. I made a two. I am unbelievable depressed. I’ve never made anything that low. I could be a result of me not bwing able to complete the entire exam. On College Board it says my score is 28.9% (?), and that I’m “possibly qualified”. If you have ever made a two or know someone who has made a 2 on the exam how did your or they deal with this? How did you tell your parents? What was their reaction?
Thank you for taking the time for reading this.
P.S. I plan on taking 3 AP classes my Junior year, but now I’m not so sure.
For the majority of colleges, AP scores are not considered in admission decisions (some differences in opinion about Elite schools). You self-report your AP scores or not on your college applications, your choice. You do not send official AP score reports until the end of your Senior year and only to the college you will be attending. I would not report any score less than 3.
Move on, your parents should understand but if not, then have them take a look at all the threads about the impact of AP scores and hopefully they will understand.
Take the 3 AP classes next year, work hard and I am sure you will do fine. We are only human and no one is perfect.
Good Luck.
My brother got a two on both his AP tests, they were his first AP tests also. My parents haven’t asked us yet, but he’s not that affected by it (or maybe he doesn’t show it.) Adding to Gumbymom, he knows that AP scores are not important in the admission process and he’s planning to take three next year.
What possible reaction are you concerned about? As already noted AP scores have little to no bearing on college admissions. The most you or your parents could be upset about is money spent on the test and potential college credits missed out on (even that is not guaranteed—a lot depends on the school you attend). The important thing is that you do well in the clashes, doing well on the tests are icing on the cake.
You will have more chances to get good scores.
Please take some time to read some world news to put your “my life is over” problem in context.
As a parent, I wouldn’t be too pleased of course. But if my kid had been working hard all year and had studied for the exam, then they did their part and what more could they really do? Sit down and discuss what you think you could do better next time around.
I wouldn’t sweat it that much. I took the APWH exam last year and I also got a two. You have to remember that AP is graded on a curve and how well you do is relative to everyone else as well. Did you practice the correct essay format? Because is you did not write the essay a certain way you are not awarded the points. Also, If your supporting evidence/thesis was weak then earning points is that much harder. Your life is definitely not over, and make sure next year you work hard in your AP classes and know the exam format for all 3 (which ones are you taking? I may be able to over some advice on them.) I didn’t prepare for the APWH exam and it showed, this year I did much better on APUSH exam with a 4.
