<p>So i play varsity football so i guess you could say im in the popular/jock group. However i consider myself to be on the edge of this group. I have a wide variety of friends, from people in the band to people on the golf team. I dont really have any hippy/nerdy friends. </p>
<p>I would like a school with intellectual people but they still have fun (i.e. play sports, hang out with friends) but definetly not a school with a bunch of hippy/nerdy people (nothing against them, im just not friends with them)</p>

<p>I’m a Holy Cross grad but my experiences in the 1970’s may be a bit dated… My daughter, howver, graduated this past May, so I can still speak some from recent experience about HC. It sounds to me like you’d be a good fit in that HC is definitely intellectual–tough admissions requirements bring a lot of very bright and highly motivated students and academics are challenging–but there clearly is a big element of fun (as there probably is on most campuses) with 20+ varsity sports teams, clubs, groups, conerts, trips to Boston and Providence, etc. There seems to be very little “hippy/nerdy” influence–I’d say HC is more “All-American”, others might say “J. Crew”. I recall from my daughter’s freshman year that she mentioned that one student became well known as “the pierced kid” because he stood out as the lone exemplar of that art on campus. Note, though, that he was not an object of scorn or ridicule but of curiosity. You’d see a huge Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry on campus, but of course there are students from all over the country so other allegiances manifest themselves as well.</p>
<p>I don’t know Bucknell and Colgate that well, but, like The Cross, they are also Patriot League schools with very strong academics and I believe a similar type of student body, as in limited “hippy/nerdy” influence. That’s certainly what I see in the student body when watching HC games against those two fine schools.</p>
<p>If you can, make a visit to your target schools while they are in session–you’ll get an instant read on what the “vibe” is on campus. My second daughter, a HS senior, made a campus visit to a well known, highly prestigious midwestern university that I had always felt was a total nerd school. I did not prejudice her before her visit there–she went without me. When she returned home she said that in a full day on campus she did not see a single student smiling the entire visit. She cincluded it would be a poor fit for her…</p>

<p>Sports isnt the most important thing to me in college, but i would like to go to a college with a good football team (like holy cross). One of the seniors from my school actually got a football scholarship there.</p>
<p>Re: aid, Holy Cross does a great job with financial aid with 60% of students receiving financial aid at a level of 100% of need. Average financial aid is $29,293 according to Princeton Review of Colleges. Furthermore, HC stands #8 among all liberal arts colleges in USA as far as “best value” according to Kiplinger’s. So, despite the $50,000 base price for tuition and room & board, HC will help strong students find the money they need to attend.</p>
