I’d suggest not using the phrase “low Ivy” in your essays.

Haha didn’t mean to sound so condescending, thanks for the tip!!

You have a chance, but your ECs seem weak. Super achieving on AP courses can be a minus. It seems to me that you need to look at state and national level contests more.

When you say “member” of the varsity swim team, what are your times? Compare them to current Ivy League swimmers, because athletics is a hook and Asians are less common as strong athletes than strong academicians.

UPenn is not a low Ivy, by any stretch.

My Times are fairly average, definitely not good enough to get me recruited to ANY colleges for that matter xD. I just do it for the participation aspect mostly.

I’m also fairly involved with a local environmental conservation group, but the # of volunteering hours I have with them is quite low.

Any other tips to improve ECs?

Thanks for all the replies so far!!

Not strong but there’s a chance. You don’t seem to stand out. Speaking chinese is really average. The best thing I see is probably AIME if u do math or compsci. Maybe with good essays and letters you’ll get in . Clarinet and eagle scout are pretty good, but I don’t see how they’ll tie in

You are competing against many, many thousands of others with similar or better stats for an Ivy slot. You might get in, but because your ECs don’t stand out, you might not.

Broaden your search just a bit, and you are looking VERY good.

Thank you!

I"m hoping to get a job in the summer. Are there any particular industries that may be better than others?

Any industry that you are interested in should be fine; the industry should be closely related to your major.

Bump, and please ignore the part about low ivies :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wondering about what schools would be reasonable for me.

Congratulations on your achievements! You are very competitive candidate, but so are majority of the candidates to those schools. Make sure you have a balanced list next year. No one here on this board can predict your chances. They are low for everyone.

Reporting Back Results from the Early Round This Year.

Got Deferred From Brown ED.

Any more chancing?

Thanks for your time everyone.

UPDATE to original: Also got a 35 Composite on the ACT 35/36/36/34
