Is my SAT score good enough to get into Rice?

My first SAT score: 1900
69 math, 62 critical reading, 59 writing

2nd SAT: 2110
78 math, 67 critical reading, 66 writing

is that good enough to get in?

It’s really hard to judge if you’re “good enough” to get into Rice mainly by one thing. Even if you had a 2400, i couldn’t tell you if you were going to gain acceptance because it’s simply not nearly enough information.

But to give you the answer you’re somewhat looking for, people have gotten in with some low scores. I, myself, got in with a 2100 but again, you’re forgetting that I had other stats and ways to increase my chances of acceptance so I wouldn’t ride on that 2100.

“2nd SAT: 2110
78 math, 67 critical reading, 66 writing”

I like this one. For me, I always say that anything over 2200 is a pretty safe place to be because you will be in pool of application with the competitive people. If you don’t have an ACT score, I suggest you try taking the ACT (for some it’s easier for others it’s not) but taking it is up to you. If you think you can honestly do better, take the SAT during the fall and see what you get. Your score is good enough be considered by admissions, but it won’t exactly be the best part of your application. Don’t worry that much about your score, they are fine (just not exactly as competitive when compared to some other apps)

Wow you’re just like me. I got a 1900 the first time and then it jumped to 2120 the second time. (Well, I did take a class.) But make sure the rest of your application is strong (essays, extracurriculars, recommendations, etc.) If you really want to go to Rice, apply ED. I’m sure that’s a big part of why I got in.

a 2110 SAT is good enough. that means if you are good enough, that SAT score wont pull you down. then again, I dont know the rest of your scores etc. so i dotn know. Either way, the SAT matters only so much

Alright thanks you guys! i plan to take another SAT hopefully i’ll do good.
In order to show interest, i should visit the campus, right? will that really boost my chances?

no it wont. your chances will be boosted by having good scores, recos and essays

visiting campus is for you. To help you see the school etc. Rice admissions doesnt really care either way

My best friend applied ED with a 2080 and was accepted. She was also 3/149 in our class, all-state horn player in Texas, and took about 10 AP classes. So yes, your SAT is good enough, but make sure the rest of your application is solid as well. Your SAT wont drag you down, but it also isn’t high enough to compensate for a weaker part of your application.

Neo - that doesnt mean that SAT is “good enough” as much as the rest of her application was stellar. so even if the SAT was a downer, it was easily compensated for

anyways, a 2100+ is kinda neutral. you need stuff to make you stand out in academics and EC’s to get you in

Antarius - Wasn’t saying that because my friend got into Rice her SAT’s were “good enough”. I was just inferring that since the OP’s scores are higher than hers, as long as the rest of his application is solid he should be fine.

The OP’s scores are within what Rice publishes as the median scores ranges for incoming Freshmen… not saying he will get in because he is in the score range, merely that the SAT aspect of his application seems to be solid.

EC>School Courses>GPA>SAT

Pretty much sums up the views by college admissions for prestigious universities.
ECs are really what makes you unique, EC’s is the biggest thing that breaks or makes your application more than anything else because most of the students that are competing for a spot into acceptance have similar grades and test scores. It is EC that separates one apart from another. The rest is self explanatory.
