<p>National merit finalist is an award, not really a hook.</p>

<p>Hooks are things like legacy, first generation college student, under-represented minority (Black, Hispanic, Native American, NOT Asian).</p>

<p>NMF helps, but it’s not a hook</p>

<p>By the time you send in your application to NU, all they’ll know about is that you are a Semifinalist. You don’t find out about Finalist until late February (or very early March - I can’t quite remember).</p>

<p>The finalist are announced in March. You can call the following number and change your first school choice as late as mid-april.</p>
