I’m hesitant to put it in my Common App because I have a 2310 on the SAT, which makes the letter of Commendation look very bad (since the commendation is awarded to top 5%). Should I put it or not? I feel it is very redundant to do so…

You are a finalist/semi-finalist or not? If you are a finalist, definitely. My National Merit finalist status is what got me my full ride at the University of Arizona. It won’t carry as much weight at more prestigious schools, but even private schools offered me special scholarships just for being a finalist.

I was only commended but didn’t even make it as a semifinalist. So I feel that it won’t do me any good.

I would put it. Don’t forget, that was for scores you got at the beginning of Junior year. Put it under the awards section.

It is an award. Unless you can fill the section with better awards, it can be used to fill the space.
