Hello! I’m a 3.93 unweighted GPA, 1560 SAT student applying to multiple top universities. I have more than enough of every academic requirement that these colleges, and my high school, require for admission/graduation- except a single, 0.5-credit Health course that is required for graduation and that I’m the only student in my grade who hasn’t taken (it is normally done in freshman year but it didn’t work in my schedule). I’m planning on taking the college equivalent via Running Start next year, but not in time for it to appear on college apps. Just asking to wonder if not having this Health course could pose a potential barrier to college admissions? Thank you very much!
You need to talk to your high school counselor to make absolutely sure that this course will count toward your HS graduation requirement, and that colleges will know that.
Are you starting your senior year of HS? Can you take the class in the HS this coming year?
If I remember correctly you list classes you take senior year on the application. I expect health class is only important in that it is required for your HS diploma.
Also agree with @thumper1 that you should get a confirmation from your guidance counselor (in writing preferably) that the course you propose will count as the health requirement needed for graduation.
Colleges don’t care about health class, but if you don’t graduate because you are missing this requirement, that will obviously be an issue. So make sure you get this squared away with your school guidance counselor.
check with your high school if they accept this health credit via online courses. Texas high school students commonly take it online via UT or another state college, many get it done over the summer.
Colleges won’t care when you apply. However If you don’t graduate HS (since you’re missing this class) then you are likely to have admission revoked. And yes, they’ll know, because in the summer after senior year your school must send them an official transcript.
Not having this health course will not pose a barrier college admissions.
Not graduating due to not meeting graduation requirements, even if it’s only because a health course, can result in a college acceptance being rescinded.
It is up to you to verify with your school that your alternative will be sufficient for graduation.
