I need some feedback on NOVA Southeastern University and the BS/MS Combined Anesthesiology Program. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Why not ask to speak to student ambassadors in the program.
I know @momsearcheng student had the chance but went to an LAC instead with a LECOM option.
All I know is Dr. wise, I go to who is on the insurance. When I do research my doctors, they rarely seem to have gone to “named” schools. In the end, if they’re MDs or even DOs the presumption is they are well trained.
Definitely ask to speak to students at Nova…and ask about their experience.
Kids are typically honest…even if they’re designed to help recruit.
Best of luck.
Thank you. Spoke to student ambassadors and did research but need an insider’s feedback.
That BS-MS program does not lead to a MD degree. It’s a Master’s degree program that leads to certification as Anesthesiology Assistant (CAA).
CAA can licensed to practice under the supervision of a board certified anesthesiologist (MD/DO) in 21 states, but not ithe rest. CAAs and CNRAs have similar scope of practice and licensing requirements, but CNRAs can practice in more locations than CAAs.
Yes, thank you. The program is for BS -MS to anesthesiology and we have an interview scheduled for Feb. What I do not know is how good (meaning rigorous and well supported in terms of faculty) the program is. Not even sure if the school has any prestige to it – I can see they have many campuses-- but if anyone has experience attending or results after grad, I would appreciate the feedback.
Ohhhhhh. I mistook Ms for MD. Had it in my mind ftom the last poster. Oops.
Thx for the catch.
I was researching NOVA last year, but very few people on the CC are familiar with it.
What I learned is that is considered solid in FL, but very few people outside of FL are familiar with it.
As long as the program is accredited and graduates are eligible to sit for the NCCAA exam prestige is pretty irrelevant. It doesn’t matter where you graduate from–only that your program is accredited and you are licensed for the state your will be practicing in.
If you have concerns about the strength of the program, you might ask what the first time pass rate for NCCAA exam is for the schools’s graduates.
NSU has become popular in the last few years in our area of New Jersey (which has plenty of med school aspirants). NSU’s BS/DO and BS/MD programs are a lot easier to get into than other such combined/accelerated programs, plus they give good merit money unlike their competitors.
Thank you so much for responding. Best of luck to your girl. Yes, the scholarship is very generous. We have the UCs as an option but the programs don’t compare and it takes about 5 years to graduate from a UC and the education offered is substandard. I like NOVA and cannot wait to visit. I hope it is as as good as it looks. Best to all on this platform and happy 2024!
I looked up NCCAA but could you give me the full name so I can be sure. Thank you, I appreciate your time.
Sorry for not responding sooner…
National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants.
This is the organization that does the national standardized certification testing for CAAs.
The organization the accredits CAA programs is the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).
Hi! I was recently looking at this program for my daughter as well! She is a junior currently in highschool. I also have a sophomore at Nova in the bs/do program. School seems to be pretty good but I have not heard any feedback about the bs/ms program. Would love to hear yours and your daughter’s feedback after interviews and visiting the school. Talking to other students in the program who stayed at Nova and matriculated into the program would be helpful too. That will be our next step when we come down there to visit our Nova daughter in a few weeks.
Thank you. This is very helpful.
I will be visiting in the first week of February and will post my updates of what I’ve found.
Hi! How was your visit with your daughter. I want my daughter to do a visit for the dual admissions AA program at the end of March. Any insight prior to our visit would be great! My oldest is a sophomore in the dual dental program there, and likes it. But I have not heard anything about their dual program in Anesthesia assistant:)
