Is NYU a realistic goal for me?

I am currently a high school sophomore interested in NYU. I am unsure whether NYU is a realistic school for me to go to. As of now, I want to be a doctor of some sort, so I am thinking about majoring in chemistry or biology.

I would like to mention my school’s lack of everything. I live in an extremely poor, rural area where many people didn’t go to college. My school works with what they have, but it isn’t much. We only offer 2 AP classes, which I can’t take until senior year. We do offer dual-enrollment courses with a local university, but only math classes and one science. I have already taken what I can and passed with A’s. My school is not competitive by any means considering they highly acknowledge students with an ACT score of 20+. A 28 already puts me the same as this year’s valedictorian. We do not have many clubs, I know of none other than Art Club. It upsets me that I can’t have more of a challenge, but all of the schools around here are the same way. Frankly, I am bored to death with my classes and need something more.

My plans for the next two years are to keep a 4.0 GPA, raise my ACT score (I have started an ACT study group with my friends), finish the mural, volunteer at the local hospital, and take all the college and AP courses offered at my school. Hopefully this will be enough due to my circumstances.

Is this a joke?
