Is NYU or UNC Chapel Hill a better school?

I was just wondering because they’re both tied for #30 on the US news ranking…

Both are well respected schools and yet highly different, so it’s a meaningless comparison that depends on what you want to study, what kind of college environment you want, etc. UNC is in a tight-knit college town and has a very pretty campus and a strong sports/basketball culture. NYU has much less school spirit and not much of a campus but you will be in NYC – one of the most interesting places in the world. Honestly, any subject at both these schools is good, although both schools have their relative strengths (ex. medicine/public health/pharmacy at UNC, business at NYU Stern and dramatic arts at Tisch). Also, the big elephant in the room is cost. You must look at your financial aid package/scholarships and decide whether NYU’s price tag is worth it over UNC.

Oh and look less at the overall rankings, they’re pretty meaningless once you’re in the top 50 or top 15 or so schools. Look at what YOU want to study, what kind of environment you want, and how much you can afford.

From a male perspective, the male/female ratio at both schools is interesting.

Both are great schools for different reasons. Depends upon your interests, likes & dislikes & intended major.

Neither is objectively “better” than the other, in terms of academic quality etc. What’s better for you depends on your personal preferences. These colleges are pretty different from each other.

UNC is a world-class public research university often referred to as a “public Ivy.” Unless you want to attend one of NYU’s very selective, prestigious filmmaking/acting programs, or want the proximity to Wall Street for possible internships/jobs, NYU would not offer you a significantly “better” experience or education. It would cost you a whole lot more money though.
