I kind of never took physics in high school an am now going to learn about heat, mechanics, sound and all that. Is it going to be much fun?

haha…just saw the title of this thread. As my H and D1 would say, “Physics is life!” The Physics dept at u of maryland has an ongoing program…“Physics is Phun”!!!

It actually is pretty cool…D wouldn’t necessarily say that the higher level classes are “fun”, but she’s hooked on the stuff!

its cool…although i hated light and mirrors.i could stand almost everything but those subjects…i want to try something in physics but i’m kinda nervous since i’m going to georgia tech and its going to be killer.

I didn’t take physics in HS and did in college. I hated it. Many concepts confused me. The experiments she did during lecture I liked, and were fun and interesting. Understanding them was another thing.

The worst part is now that I changed majors that physics class was counted as an elective. I would never take physics as an elective. Ah well…

depends …watching the science channel on TV is entertaining…
but physics lectures can sometimes not be.

thus it depends on the setting of your learning, hope you are quick to catch on and get a great professor.

i took only the physics you are describing, the one with energy, heat, and mainly mechanics…yes this was a very hard class…i would personally describe it harder than calculus1.
I am taking physics2 this time in the fall (after 2 year break from physics1)…hope things have changed, now have taken 2 years of mathematics courses and will more than likely be quick to pick it up (I HOPE).

GOOD LUCK

I had an awesome physics teacher, so class was great.

Personally, I LOATHED newtonian mechanics (and sucked at it), where as I loved E&M. But I guess that’s not the typical physics ‘experience.’

I didn’t like it.

Physics is fun. But you may be so loaded down with work that it may be hard to enjoy the journey.

I liked it a lot in HS, but I found it sooooooo boring in college. Into physics is pretty easy, though.

it’s beautiful if you understand what’s going on,
otherwise it’s hell

Physics imo is the easiest of the main three sciences.

I really enjoyed it and found it extremely easy. (I found Biology easy as well, but Chemistry hard). None of the concepts were hard to grasp for me.

Short answer, “No.”

Long answer, “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.”

At the lower levels, physics is more conceptual, and that can be interesting to a large variety of people. At the higher levels, often a lot of the difficulty comes from challenging/sophisticated mathematical introductions, which most people probably wouldn’t care too much for. To me, that stuff looks cool, though.

I’m sure if you get a pretty good book + good professor, you’ll have a good time.

Physics is totally fun.

yes! You get to use totally cool greek letters:)

Newtonian mechanics is boring. But theoretical physics is the freakiest, coolest subject ever.

You get to use greek letters because you run out of regular letters to use for variables.

Is anything but physics fun?

To answer the OP: Ask the guys fixing Hubble.

In general yes, at least the concept. Learning it, no never boringgggg
