Is PITT academically/ professionally respected?

Is PITT well respected by employers? Are PITT grads at a disadvantage in finding jobs when CMU is so near, and CMU grads have the benefit of prestige?

CMU alumni here (Civil Engineering), with a D that is considering both. I’d say that It really depends on the major and the student’s accomplishments while working on their degree.

Pitt’s nursing and communicative disorders (speech pathology/audiology) for example are fantastic and something that CMU doesn’t offer. CMU is not known for it’s humanities, so I doubt Pitt grads in these fields would be at any kind of disadvantage.

CS and engineering grads may be at a disadvantage compared to their CMU peers due to the latter’s reputation, but I think a Pitt grad that had participated in extensive research and/or internship opportunities would more than make up the reputation difference compared to a CMU grad that didn’t seek out these types of opportunities.

I’d add BioE at Pitt is far advanced vs CMU - and I think bioE is only a co-major at CMU. There isn’t a breadth of tracks within BioE that Pitt offers either.

Thanks for your information! I really appreciate your help.

Thanks for your reply! Its good to know that employers aren’t blinded by prestige and look for the quality of the program.
