Is Pure Math major in UCB or UCLA very competitive?

I know Engineering and Chemistry is the most competitive in UCB and UCLA. But is Pure Math major (Letter and Science) is competitive too?

SAT Math Subject Tests II is 750
SAT Physics Subject Tests is 650
SAT Reasoning is 2100
AP Calculus Test is 5
AP Physics Test is 4
AP Chemistry Test is 4
Is it possible to be accepted?

Berkeley L&S is generally considered less competitive for frosh admissions than CoE or CoC, although the competition level for frosh admissions is still fairly high (and high school courses and grades matter more than test scores). All L&S frosh enter undeclared. Math is not a capped-enrollment major, so you just need C or higher grades in your frosh/soph math courses (although the department recommends that only students with B- or higher grades in the soph-level courses enter the major).

<a href=“Majoring in Mathematics | Department of Mathematics at University of California Berkeley”>Majoring in Mathematics | Department of Mathematics at University of California Berkeley;

I have 4.14 (unweigh only Junior and Sophomore year) is it OK?

Many people chose undeclared in L&S and were accepted. Is it risky when I choose Pure Math major? I dont want to choose undeclared

Why second guess admissions? See: http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/12626_4.Freshmen(3).pdf

The relevant section is: “Is it OK to apply as an “Undeclared” major?” and the answer on the pdf file is: “Choosing “Undeclared” will not affect your chance of admission to these colleges.” They mean within the college. In your case the college of interest is College of Letters and Science.

Look up UCLA admissions. They have a similar admissions guidelines.

I read the link you gave. It is ok to choose undeclared in L&s. But if i choose undeclared, college encuorage me to study many academic areas and i have to do so. It means undeclared is easier to get in, right?

Within Berkeley L&S, selection of an intended major or choosing undeclared does not affect frosh admission selectivity. All frosh entering Berkeley L&S are undeclared.

What Math major L&S students study and what undeclared L&S student study is same, isn’t it?

All Berkeley L&S frosh enter undeclared. Those who intend to major in math take the lower division courses and then declare the math major.
