Is quoting Thoreau or Emerson going to sound Clich

Usually quotes from harry potter series have become so common that adcoms dont want to see them anymore.

I feel like with colleges like HYP, the same might be true for Thoreau or Emerson. So is quoting from Walden, or Self-Reliance going to sound Clich

No clue. Dont know much about those guys. I plan on striking everything from a different angle and acting relaxed and natural instead of smart and stuff in my essays.

If you interpret and apply it in an unconventional way, then no. Otherwise, yes.

Can’t compare Harry Potter to Thoreau or Emerson. It’s silly, even. Btw, the problem with HP isn’t that it’s so often quoted. It’s that it’s popular fiction, not a mind-stretch or great philosophical treatise.

Who you quote isn’t going to impact your application; rather how and in what context do you quote.

quoting some 12th century Byzantine poet out of the blue will just make you look silly
