Is San Jose State University a good engineering school?

My cousin is planning to study EE at San Jose State University (SJSU). She likes the location, but I told her to apply to Cal Poly too because it is a better school in general.

How is the engineering program at SJSU?
Is SJSU a respectable engineering school?

Thanks

Engineering is not the same as other disciplines. A school ranked 150th can turn out engineers equal to the top 10 schools.

If there is one thing I’ve learned is that engineering students who graduate tend to come out pretty equal to eachother. There is no such thing as an easy engineering program and while some schools have better faculty and facilities than others, those who graduate tend to come out just as qualified as any other student…

SDSU is actually ranked 10th for undergrad EE. I would say that’s pretty good.

I attended SJSU briefly for graduate studies in Electrical Engineering. My experiences were not very good. The professors I had were mediocre at best, and didn’t seem particularly interested in teaching. As a result, I didn’t learn much and got very little out of attending lectures. I’m not sure what their undergrad program is like, but the majority of students in the graduate program are international students. The engineering student population is not very diverse. Also, cheating and copying run rampant throughout the classes. This was the main reason why I left. I couldn’t tolerate seeing other students copying each other’s midterms and having the professor’s turn a blind eye. Frankly, many of the faculty members there just don’t give a damn.
