Is sat writing score not important?

I scored a 2170 on the January 2010 SAT.
My breakdown: Writing 790, Math 650, Reading 730

As you can see, much of my score was possible because of my high writing score… yet I have heard from multiple sources that schools “don’t care about writing score”. Now i’m in distress. Help!?

haha nice napolean dynamite reference…anyways…It’s not that schools don’t care about writing…it’s just that math and critical reading are more important and is usually what college people look at…but that doesn’t mean you can get by with an 800 in cr and math but with a 500 in writing…I hope you get my point…but you sure can increase your math and reading…pm if you want some resources or tips on improving your cr and math skills…I’ll refer you to them…good luck!

I would love some tips! So as i said before, I took the SAT in January of this year (i’m a junior) and if I take it again it won’t be until the beginning of my senior year. (October) Is that okay?

Yes. I would suggest you give some time to improve. October sounds great. Like I said you can pm on what you need and I’ll do my best to help you!

A lot of schools, including some Ivies (e.g., Harvard), consider the writing section just as much as they do the other sections. Generally, you should go for 720+ per section for top schools if you want to be competitive. Also, senior year test dates generally include October, November, and December (some schools accept the January SAT).
