Is someone who scaores a 18 ready for college?

Do you think somebody who scores an 18 on the ACT is ready for college? I’ve read that is the “college readiness benchmark”, but don’t quote me on it. What score do you think qualifies someone for a college workload?

Idk if you made this as a joke thread, but I have a friend that got a 19 on his ACT and he went to Devry I think

I don’t think any score determines whether one is ready for college. Of course, high scores usually correlate with college readiness, but low scores can often be caused by other factors besides college incompatibility. I know a few people that have scored around 18’s and are doing fine in college. (Though, not any top schools or anything.)

It really depends on what college the person is considering going to

Are you being serious -_____-.

At my school, the majority of students would be lucky to get an 18. I don’t think they’d be capable of any more than a technical school. Mechanic, secretary, truck driver, etc.

^do NOT assume that mechanics, secretaries, or truck driver are somehow all stupid people. It takes more than academic test taking ability to make a person intelligent

I don’t think you can go by ACT score alone. I have a friend who got an 18 on the ACT the first two times she took it. I think after a few tries she might have pulled it up to a 20. She’s now a college sophomore at a small LAC that, while not particularly prestigious, is rated by USNWR as a Tier 1 college, and she has a 3.5 GPA. She was a B student at a very competitive suburban public high school, and took college prep, but not honors, courses there. I could tell from high school performance that this student would be fine in college in spite of her ACT scores.

I completely agree.

ofcourse, everyone is not capable of making 20+ on the act, and the act does not determine your academic excellence. I bet you can get a lot higher though :)
