Is Statistics counted towards math and sciece GPA

The course was entitled “Introduction to Business and Economic Statistics.” Also, in the same light, would econometrics be considered math?

This class was also within the Statistics department.

Also, what about an astronomy class called “Origins of the Cosmos?”

Here’s the description: Primarily for non-science majors. A description of the Universe, its origins and its evolution, based on known physical principles. Topics include galactic and stellar structure, black holes, origin of the elements, and big bang cosmology. Prerequisite: high school algebra. Laboratory fee. (Fall and spring)

See p. 40 of the 2012 AMCAS Instruction Manual

I do not think Origins of the Cosmos is one of B, C, P, M. But I did not look up the above post though. At best, it could be “other sciences” (which is not as important as BCPM) if there is such a category.

My intuition is that, as long as a science class meets the science major graduation requirement set by a science department (especially Bio, Chemistry, Physics, Math), not just a “appreciation” science class for non-science majors to meet their science education requirement, it is counted as BCPM GPA. Otherwise, premeds will flock to these science classes to compete against those non-premeds and non-science majors. This is not what medical school adcoms want to see.

Indeed they do bcos is if starts with Bio or Physics, it almost always counts for BCPM. (A writing course offered thru a science department obviously would not.) Stats and Intro to Astro is generally considered a gpa-boosters by premeds and highly recommended. Since Intro to Cosmos requires a lab, I’m pretty confident that it would be counted as bcpm, assuming its listed under the Physics or Astronomy departments and not Engineering.

That’s true, but only when an adcom takes the time to go thru the transcript thoroughly and put the bcmp gpa into perspective. In addition to light courses, they’ll also look to see if a student had any science W’s with retakes. But that will occur after any computer-generated first cuts (based on gpa).
