So I’ve sort of noticed that a BUNCH of people say their swimmers! Coming from NH where swimming is not such a popular sport? Is it just coincidince? I thought that it would sort of stand out that I’ve been doing it for so long but I DEFFINETLY have been taken aback! any opinionss?

I’m connfffuuuuussseeeeddd!

As I gather you’ve figured out, swimming really IS that popular in certain regions, states, cities, towns and on down to households. The same could be said for any other sport.

However, you can still talk about what it has meant for you to be a swimmer in a state that doesn’t have as many opportunities as you would like, or to be focused long-term on an activity that not many folks in your area care as much about.

It isn’t the fact that you’re a swimmer from NH that will make you stand out in the eyes of the AdComs, but what swimming (or whatever) has meant to you that may distinguish you from the masses. (I’m assuming from what you said that you’re beginning the application process - is that right?)

I think there are plenty of top-notch NH swimmers. We have a national champion in our town and the next town over has a kid in Olympic trials. In addition, the indoor pool in Dover, NH is named after their home-grown olympic swimmer. I think there are several club programs that produce some top level swimmers. Swimming and being from NH is not enough to make you stand out; being a top swimmer from NH isl.

At the prep schools which have pools, swimming is popular. At the schools which don’t have pools (most), not so much.
