As A Freshman, I am doing Pre IB Spanish 1. My school offers a pathway that either Spanish 2 students or Pre IB Spanish 1 students can go to Pre IB spanish 3. The only problem is, I want to go into Pre IB spanish 4 and get weighted credit.
So can I take normal Spanish 3 over the summer and get into Pre IB spanish 4? I strive to get A’s and I have a very high work ethic, so I have no problem taking Spanish 3 over the summer. My question is, is Spanish 3 enough for Pre IB spanish 4?
Thanks a bunch! A quick answer would be great.
This question would be best suited for your counselor.

Curriculum-wise, Spanish 3 is pretty easy. All you do is preterite-imperfect, commands, por/para, and subjunctive. These are all things that can be taught in a summer.
However, I am unsure of the curriculum of Pre IB Spanish 4. Since Pre IB seems to be one level above a regular Spanish Class (guessing that Spanish 2 = PreIB Spanish 1), I’m going to assume that PreIB Spanish 4 will be a mix between Spanish 4 and AP Spanish Language. If so, I would not recommend going into Pre IB Spanish 4.
Anyone can learn how to read and write Spanish, and I feel confident that you could read/write in Spanish using the aforementioned topics over a summer assuming that you spend 1 hour a day practicing on your own. However, speaking and listening to Spanish (especially when listening to native speakers) is what most people struggle with in AP Spanish Language. I’ve taken 4 years of Spanish, received A’s in all of my classes, and I still can’t barely understand a native speaker in any Spanish-speaking country.
What I would recommend is that you take PreIB Spanish 3 so that you have an additional year with listening and speaking before you get into the weighted classes. However, you should talk to your counselor because I’m not sure that Spanish 3 = PreIB Spanish 3.
Thanks. I will also talk to my counselor about this, and see my options. At all worst, I will simply miss one weighted credit and stay safe with Pre IB Spanish 3.
If doing Spanish 3 over the summer is ok toward Pre IB spanish 4, I think I should be fine. I speak another language besides English, so catching up is not a problem.
Thanks for the insight! I will talk to my counselor and see my options.
Actually, someone doing regular Spanish 2 can do IB spanish 3, so I am assuming that someone doing regular Spanish 3 can go and do IB Spanish 4. I think my summer of next year will have to be filled up with preparing for Pre IB spanish 4. IB spanish focuses more on the culture of Spanish and some orals, so I really should thoroughly prepare throughout the summer of next year so I can be prepared.
