Is the ACT Reading similar to Critical Reading?

Can I use the same strategies for ACT Reading that I used for Critical Reading? For instance, is it useful to read a few lines, and then answer a couple of questions pertaining to those few lines, and then read some more lines, and answer a few more questions, and so on?

Basically, what I’m trying to ask is that, can I use the set of strategies mentioned here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

You can, if that is how you work best; I used roughly the same strategy for both tests (read entire thing, then answer questions), but keep in mind that for the ACT, the reading goes by super duper fast.

For me, I found that in the ACT I was reading to just get a quick summary while for the SAT I read for understanding.

It’s really up to you-- however, on the ACT I don’t quite remember whether the questions were in order…

@chipped, I think the questions ARE in order.
But the main idea (primary purpose or whatever) questions can be either in the beginning or the end, I think. Not absolutely sure though.

All right, thanks! Any more opinions? Please.

I don’t use the same strategy, because most of the reading questions don’t actually tell you where in the text is the info. that they want you to answer (in critical reading most of the questions say to which part of the passage they are refering to). I read the entire passage and answer all the questions as fast as I can, it usually works because instead of going back to the passage to understand the context I already memorized it in one reading. So try first reading the passage, but not just to get the main idea, try absorbing as much info. as you can, try focusing, concentration is what sets you apart from needing to go back to the passage after each question. Then after reading going through all of the questions. Also, some questions are not in order in concordance to the text so be careful it’s not like sat’s critical reading.
