I’ve never visited George Washington, but from what I’ve been told the campus isn’t really like a traditional college campus. I’d like to go somewhere that is aesthetically pleasing. Can you tell me more about what the campus looks like, maybe some links to photos or videos?

Just go to accepted students day on the 11th, 15th, or 18th

I have walked through the campus a few times while visiting DC. The buildings and grounds are quite neat and many of the buildings are new (or refurbished) … that said it is far from a traditional campus… the “campus” is a few square blocks of college buildings in the middle of DC with the regular city streets passing right through GW. I would suggest you visit because I would guess you will have an immediate reaction either way when you visit.

i suggest you visit .

(and let me warn you now that i AM a gw fanatic)
when i visited i was kinda disappointed because although i love urban campuses, i also love traditional campuses and i was like “***? wheres the grass?”
but then i found out about the mount vernon campus about a 10 min shuttle bus ride away. that DEFINATELY a more traditional campus so its like getting the best of both worlds ! and yes it is VERY pretty.

Or you could just walk 4 blocks and sit on the grass in front of the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln Memorial, or the Smithsonian, etc.

I think the GW campus is great, BTW.

Frisbee games, pick-up soccer matches, hot dog vendors, and beautiful sites are included.

Nomo,
My D went to the cherry blossom festival this afternoon and was by the Jefferson Memorial. Need I really say more?

In addition to the mall, there is University Yard (a quad) where people play frisbee and such on. You honestly don;t spend as much time doing sports outside as you’d like. I go down to the mall though practically almost daily (at least 3-4 times a week, usually for a walk or jog)

GW is (obviously) not a traditional campus with “pretty” buildings/greenery, but it does have cool buildings, monuments, and so on. They have their perks and minuses, but the city and campus are “cool” if you’re wanting an urban college experience.

GW is really beautiful in the spring. There are flowers and cherry blossom trees all over the main parts of campus in front of residence halls and in Kogan Plaza, which is where many students hang out on warm-weather days. Like other people have said, DC is a very accessible city and if you’re looking for a change of scenery, there are a variety of sights just a walk or metro ride away. Dumbarton Oaks is a 20-minute walk away in Georgetown and they have the most beautiful gardens.
I’m from New Hampshire so the urban environment was originally a shock to me, but I’ve really gotten used to it and I can appreciate it. I would also recommend a visit so you can decide for yourself what you think, because for some people the campus is a real turn-off.
