Is the more expensive college worth it?

Today college is expensive in general, but some schools more than others. While the big name schools remain the most expensive, they claim to offer the “best” education. Are the benefits from attending a school backed up by its name worth all the extra money? Does the prestige and background of your university matter that much when it comes to landing a job?

There’s no general answer to your question for a couple of reasons. One is that the actual cost of attending any one college is almost unique to an individual - it depends on your academic ability and level of financial need. So a school that’s less expensive for you may be more expensive for your classmate.

The other reason is that to a large degree the quality of the experience you’ll gain from attending any one school depends on your fit with that school. You have to find a place where you’ll be both socially and academically integrated to get the most out of the experience.

The last reason I can think of is that more expensive colleges often offer various additional “frills”. Things like pimped-out athletic facilities, plush dorms, really good food in the cafeteria, etc. You’ll have to decide what your taste is for those extras and whether they’re worth the price.
