Is the UCI Econ program any good?

I’m going to JC but want to transfer to UCI afterward because it’s the closest school to my house and the cheapest because I can stay at home and commute. I live in San Clemente (city farthest south in OC), so there isn’t really any other school I could commute to (UCSD is 60 miles away…). I’ve heard some people say the UCI econ program is terrible, so I could just suck it up and take some loans and get a dorm/apt. to go to another school far away…

There are no “terrible” programs at UCI. Pretty sure econ at UCI is ranked among the top 40 programs nationally.

As an Econ major i have to say the program is not bad although you get some bad teachers the overall quality of the education is not bad. Plus the courses you take seem very relevant to what you need to know

What do you plan on getting into? (Finance, Accounting, ?)
My friends in econ complain about it all the time. I think the teachers can be pretty bad. But Idk.

Honestly you will learn the same economics everywhere.

As far as teachers, I only had one bad professor but that didn’t hinder me from learning the material. I am pretty sure you get the same mix of good/bad professors at any school.

Also I would watch what people say when they say the professor good or bad. A bad teacher can easily become a good teacher by being an Easy A professor. That is usually the case. Easy A = good professor. I had to work my butt = bad professor.

School vs. School. I would decide on factors like networking.
