CWB deserved the win, but Blake has tons of fans who would vote for ANYBODY who is on his team. Craig seemed genuinely touched to have won. I still like Chris, though.

musicmom1215, Blake DOES have a good fan base that garners his teammates votes but I don’t think he would have won with the “other country guy”-- James Michael Carter. The iTunes downloads is also a big factor in determining who wins or goes far.

Gwen is also probably wondering what “could have been” if she had hung onto CWB!

It’s not a surprise to me that Craig won. There are a ton of country fans out there, and he had no competition in that category. Seems like the country singers were often winning on AI also. I generally found Craig boring, as I’d forget what he sang the second he stopped singing, and never found myself humming his songs. He performed like he’d been doing it forever, which actually is kind of dull if there is never a mistake. Sometimes it seemed like he was rather bored himself.

But for these singers now, it’s who gets songs sold and played on the radio

So I just watched yesterday’s performances, and I had a different opinion than the majority, I think. Most of the performances, I thought, were very good. None that I thought were fantastic, and none were even slightly bad. But mostly all in the same zone.

I thought the duets were all pretty good, with Craig and Blake’s being the best. Adam and Chris were good, but too much falsetto, Chris sounded better than Adam. Adam and Matt were decent, though he shouldn’t have selected a song with falsetto for Matt. If you know your guy isn’t that great at it, you don’t choose a song just because it makes YOU sound good. But it wasn’t bad, just non memorable. Damien’s duet was fine. Again, nothing particularly memorable.

The first run songs were all good. Damien missed a few notes, Matt was very good but not amazing to me. Chris and Damien were good. The last songs were all fine too. I expected Matt’s to be awful, but he sang it beautifully. Wish he would have sung a different song, but he nailed it (except for one off key note). So I didn’t think anyone clearly did particularly better than anyone else, overall.

Nothing special or bad for anyone, just…pretty good.

When Matt sang Over the Rainbow, I felt he was being thrown to the sharks.

^^^ Yes! That was a huge mistake. Was it on purpose?

I only watched spotty during the season - very spotty. So I hadn’t gained any attachment to any of the “persons” performing. I think this can and does happen - you fall in love with the person/personality and while they may have a decent voice it may not be the best but it’s the person that drives you rooting for them.

Listening some last week and all this week I was NOT getting the love for Matt. An ok voice, but I wasn’t seeing much style in it. When I was hearing him sing what I heard (along with many bad notes) was someone “talk singing” - how do I describe that…like he was talking with a little singing in his voice, but not a style and true singing voice. Now that could have been because of the bad song choices you all mention the last week or so.

I was rooting for Chris but also felt he had a road yet to travel in his stage performance. I felt his voice alone surpassed Matt and he was more in tune. I happen to love the falsetto.

I am NOT a country music fan and even more, NOT a Blake Sheldon fan. I do love Adam - the person and the personality - and REALLY wanted to see him get a win! Not to be.

Also wanted to say, that I hope to see many of you on the January 2015 American Idol thread! I’ve been a watcher since season 2 and while it’s had it’s growing pains, always end up watching. Word is they are pairing down Idol as well - one night only at the top 10 or 12 point.

I think whoever saoid that Matt and Chris would split votes was right

I’ve watched The Voice only sporadically through the years but wanted to ask you who are experts and big fans, has anyone from the show gone on to become truly popular, or familiar names, like some of the American Idol people have? I have to admit that I wouldn’t be able to name one winner from The Voice. I know that many of them have been performers for years prior to appearing on the show, including, I believe, this most recent winner.

Alwaysamom, I think a few pages back, someone listed the people who had done well from the Voice.

abasket, I think if you haven’t watched all the performances, it’s hard to understand why some people are so popular. It’s not because of personality, I don’t think, because they don’t show much of it on this program. However, there are people that have sang phenomenally, memorably, and for that, they are given a pass when they don’t do so great. Luke Wade got a number of passes after singing 'Let’s Get It On," but they ran out. I think if you saw each person’s exceptional performances (as you may have just seen the lesser ones), you’d probably have a different perspective.

To make a “downer” comment, I think the show is a microcosm of all the reasons that pursuing a career as a performer is an uphill battle. The level of singing talent is really very very high, and the need for a stage presence that appeals to an audience in the right way, and the need for the right guidance and the personality to accept it is so high that only an extremely select few are able to have the level of success to make it “worth it”. My hat is off to those who made it to the later rounds.

Busdriver, I agree. What made me a Matt fan was his blind audition. I could not get his rendition of Thousand Years out of my head…even though his voice is not particularly spellbinding, his unique more masculine take on that song won me over. Over the Rainbow was a terrible song choice for this competition — maybe Adam was trying to sabotage him in Chris’s favor who knows — but he almost nailed his version of it. Big mistake on his part to go for the Judy Garland moment at the end instead of a softer ending.

dadx, so true. Stage presence and that ineffable “star” quality has to be incredibly strong…I think some performers only break through because they have amazing songwriting chops as well as vocal ability.

I just went back to watch the Thousand Years performance to see what I had missed and … eh.

The vote splitting is nothing new and it has not precluded others to win despite multiple finalists from the same coach. Happened to Blake with the Poon Bros.

Fwiw, one might have noted the limitations of Matt when the contestants sang tge Xmas songs to the kids.

I never got Matt. I never got Tessanne.

I don’t know why I watch this show. :)

I think it dupes us all into thinking if we vote for a great singer, that singer will make it. But it’s not about “the voice”, there is so much that goes into it. I suppose since I was at one time an aspiring dancer I understand that the best dancer wasn’t always the one chosen - it was a look, a size, a particular skill, fitting against the star or the other dancers, etc I’m quite certain the best singers aren’t the ones we hear on the radio. It’s an intangible quality that makes people want to hear you and see you and listen to the songs you perform.

That’s two of us, DS. I meant the Swon Brothers above.

“I just went back to watch the Thousand Years performance to see what I had missed and … eh.”

You might figure out what you missed if you go back and watch him singing Yellow or The Blowers Daughter.

However, so much of this competition is about what kind of music and singer that people like. For example, I could hear people singing amazing country songs all day, and I’d still say, “eh.” Or falsetto. I don’t consider not singing great falsetto to be a limitation, as I don’t really ever care to hear guys singing it. If I want to hear high pitched voices, I can listen to the real thing by listening to a woman.

I think CWB would have won no matter what happened in the last performance. He is much more main stream and the country vote is really difficult to overcome. He already had a huge following before the show so it was in place. I don’t see anything special about him but, with the exception of a few singer songwriters, there’s not much I find interesting about country music.
