Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Why would Reba drop her last name… this is not her sitcom and I thought her brand included a first AND last name?

Agree with negative comments re. Hannah and Brian to open the show. Terrible. In trouble this week. The backup band swallowed them alive.

I would rather watch India but prefer to listen to Kimberly.

Thought Mia Z had some good moments but wasn’t blown away overall.

Deanna’s lower register sounded “garbled”. IMO it was NOT due to sound mixing or other technical issues. Too ambitious a song for her range. I still think she’s safe, that there were worse performances.

I’m not liking the way tonight’s show was produced, using the backup band and vocals. All the performances are getting overshadowed by the band.

Sawyer sounded great but didn’t look quite as comfortable. Maybe the boo-boo affected his confidence. I just love the kid’s tone. Glad to see he’s human.

Rob, Corey, and Koryn all had their best performance. Safe for now? Did Adam really say Rob “pulled ahead in the race”? What makes him think THAT?

Joshua had a strong night. I think he will have a good week on the iTunes Charts. Blake didn’t know Joshua’s song, Simon and WHO???

Finally! Meghan sang country. That’s her best genre! That will be her best iTunes showing yet. My favorite performance of hers this season.

Great song choice for Kimberly. Ambitious song and she did not disappoint!

Lots of personal bests tonight.

Agree, Brian and Hannah in trouble. Deanna on the bubble?

Didn’t enjoy Kimberly this time- too much screaming. I was glad India did especially well tonight.
I do think Hannah will go home, and probably Brian, but Deanna wasn’t her best, so you never know.

I don’t think who might be 1-8 matters at all. Fwiw, there are three singers who will have to go through that moronic instant safe. Brian and Hanna are probably in it, but in addition to Deanna --courtesy of Adam, once more-- there might be a surprise such as Mia --her own poor decision. Deanna should veto Adam and Mia should really listen to Pharrell who has been great so far (after being horrendous in his first year).

I think Deanna and Mia are better and should safe in the final part. But I think Adam will sweat with two in the bottom pit. Christina and Pharrell will have a quiet night. Things will change when they get to 6.

DS, remember whom you picked a few weeks ago. /smile. I think Kimberly has zero chance to win. She is this year Danica or Amanda Brown and similar to prior contestants who did well until the final rounds.

Xiggi, I do…but you didn’t take the other side…

So I can change my team.

I actually don’t know who is going to win…

I still think Sawyer is going to win…but…not his best tonight. Sawyer still has a great voice though and he is slightly ahead of Kimberly on itunes last I looked…

I preferred India tonight over Kimberly…but looks like most people disagree.

I preferred Joshua over Kimberly too. I guess I am getting old…getting old or reliving my roots. As far as top 40 goes… Simon and Garfunkle were my favorites when I was in high school. Then Carole King… Probably still that way…

I really like Joe Pass the best…but he was a jazz guitarist…and he is dead…so I don’t think Joe is going win the Voice.

Here is to you, DS

I love the lyrics and have borrowed some in my work

I am an old soul too

Xiggi, Excellent!

You have great taste!

dstark, if you’re a Carole King fan, keep an eye out for the tour of Beautiful, the Broadway musical of her story. You’d love it. The tour starts in September and there are already California dates for 2016, with more to be added.

p.s. You’re not the only one who preferred India over Kimberley.

Alwaysamom, I do want to see that show.

Thanks.

Well…as of about 9 am this morning, it looks as if Brian and Mia may be those who are going home with no chance to be saved. Despite all the comments re Sawyer, he’s still in first place. Remember when you buy the song, you don’t get the live version.

I’ll feel bad if Mia goes home because I don’t think she’s in the bottom.

A real shocker if Mia goes home. I’ll believe it when I see it. Her best is yet to come!

They will have the 5-minute Twitter save tonight, but the same people who vote in that are probably the same who download the songs (or not) on iTunes. I still don’t think Mia will go home. Brian, yes, definitely.

Mia!?? That’s terrible. Where are the teenage boys?

But, xiggi, I did think of you when she hit those ultra-high notes. “Xiggi isn’t going to like that.”

Goodbye Brian.

Hannah over Mia? I hope not…I find Mia’s voice fascinating even if her performance falters.

Deanna can go…so boring.

Haha, thank you! I hinted that Mia might be the surprise casualty. She is a better singer than several who should go home, but she can blame herself for the poor rendition of a poor choice. That song has been done poorly so many times that it becomes like listening to a screeching blackboard. On top of that, what I called those silly Flipper squeals were really not helping her case.

This shows that all it takes is a bad performance or a bad song to sink a good candidate.

" On top of that, what I called those silly Flipper squeals were really not helping her case."

Okay, that’s funny. I’ll never be able to listen to her without thinking that anymore.

What really can hurt an artist at this point in the competition is having to perform a song that isn’t popular with the general American audiences. Young people will download the songs they like even if the singer isn’t the best. This may have hurt Mia this round.

I am still confused about the rules. I know all sales count at the end. However, if they don’t count along the way, then Mia is in serious trouble.

I do know that if you get any song into the top 10, you get a multiplier of 10. Sawyer, Kimberly and Meghan all did that this week and get the multiplier, so they are safe.

The multiplier is only on the iTunes votes. What percentage of the total votes this represents is unknown – well, as far as I know. I did not think that the multiplier lasted until the bitter end. I thought the finale was not using that part.

Still think that the instant safe is a joke. Why go to all the trouble to let a portion of the audience make the save decision. Count the votes and chop, chop, here you go!

The way I understand the iTunes top-10 is as jonri described it. Top-10 gets you a multiplier of 10 (as jonri mentioned) plus the votes are cumulative. So… IF you make the finals and you are fortunate enough to have a top-10 download or two in the weeks leading up to the finals, it gives you a huge advantage of winning, over a finalist who is not as fortunate. As xiggi remembers all too well, this is how “cruise singer” (his words) Cassadee Pope won a few seasons back. And for this reason, Sawyer is also a pretty safe bet on winning as well.
