Eyemamom, I agree with you regarding Deanna. She was the worst tonight and barely worse than Mia. The poor guy was robbed.
OTOH, I can’t agree about Team Blake. For instance, Meghan was easily the best last night. The bottom three were right on the money. If three needed to go home, it would have been those who sang tonight for a save.
I thought Meghan did a poor, harsh job with a great song. How anyone can say that she was the best, much less “easily” boggles my mind. She still looks significantly older than she is, and should lose the bleached blonde look pronto. Kimberley did something truly new and wonderful with a classic and rocked the house. India was better than before, but not the best rendition of that song I’ve ever heard. Josh did a superb job with America, Sawyer also did something different with a classic and was his usual charismatic self despite the controversial moment. Rob’s best performance. Hannah brought her performance magic and her singing is strong and in tune. Brian, meh. Koryn rocked it, I didn’t know she had it in her. MiaZ was great as always and I love her upper register and the way she uses it. Corey, appealing as usual but just not great. Deanna, I don’t know what to say.
Who should have gone home? Brian, definitely. Probably Corey or Rob. I still think Deana has potential.
Definitely NOT MiaZ. That’s just crazy.
I didn’t see tonight’s show, so I don’t know how those in jeopardy performed.
Good analysis, moonchild. You also, xiggi. I, like most of you, am surprised. I didn’t think someone of Mia’s caliber would get an “early exit” with one less-than-stellar performance on Monday night. I really do think she was a top-5 competitor. Kudos to other posters who mentioned that voters can be unpredictable. I wasn’t buying into the “one song can lead to their demise logic” for the top-tier group, which I considered Mia to be in. I would have been okay with her going home at no. 4, 5, or 6. But she went home way too soon!
Some of the singers flying “under the radar” had their personal bests last night… Koryn, Rob, even Corey. Mia did not have her personal best. It was probably her weakest performance so far, and it cost her.
busdriver, I don’t have any problem with spoilers and thanks for asking. Like you said, if you’re reading posts you’re going to find out who went home.
So sorry to see MiaZ go home, but I’m glad Deanna stayed.
I’m very surprised Hannah is still here, but hey, good for her. All of these kids seem like very nice people, so I am happy for them even if they aren’t who I’d choose to listen to. It will be interesting to see what the remaining singers
come up with next week.
After watching the show and the instant save of Deanna (who I thought had the worst sing-for-the save performance), I’m wondering if Mia had been on Team Adam would she have gotten the save since Adam gave the better speeches compared to Pharrell?

Oh, it is not that mind boggling, if you allow yourself to pay attention to little things, and not get too concerned with hairdos and age. Look who won in the past years with an older looking Chin, Josh, and CWB. Style does not matter as much as appealing to … voters.
We all prefer certain styles and I have no problems calling Meghan the best performers of the night because she shows improvement when it matters. Compare that to Mia who messed up --and she did royally-- and was sent home. And we have our biases as well. I cannot stand the screamers and think they are glorified backup singers.
So, once you dock Sawyer for having his worst night and being exposed somehow and don’t care for a screamer uber alles, you do … pick the best. And that was Meghan!
Anyhow, it does not matter, As I said, the game is about avoiding the elimination. And I think that it was hard to argue with the bottom three. You might have a point about style. Perhaps Deanna was saved for her legs, because she surely did not do better than the others. If fairness was in play, both Deanna and Mia should be packing. Fairness based on the save song, that is. Rob was dead last with the voters.
Jshain, the votes were a toss up. That format is poor. I don’t think she could overcome her poor show of last night, that poor choice, and compounding it with trying to save herself with a blues song that had the same glass breaking high note.
I am afraid Pharrell repeated some of his errors of the past season. He obviously liked the blues part. He kept repeating how she was 1–2-3 on that chart. A clue for him is that number 4 is a song from several decades ago and the rest of that chart is meh. And I love Etta James, but seriously, the girl should have been singing something fresh.
Interesting what someone said about Deanna’s legs … She did have the best legs last night of the three. Mia is a bit too serious for a mostly popular music kind of show. As a fan of jazz and real musicians, I am disappointed Mia went home, but she played the wrong card at a time when voters are voting for their favorite song. In a few more weeks she could have shown us a unique song and it would have been different, but at this point in the show she couldn’t relate to the audience that voted.
I thought Brian had the best voice of the 3 who sang, but I can’t help but wonder if his weight loses some voters. He is so like-able but when his physique is compared to Deanna, she would win out in a pop culture audience, especially given how young he is.
I hope we all stop talking about how nervous Deanna gets on stage. That issue is getting old and it makes her seem needy, and that exhausts me because I am helping her through each performance instead of the other way around. On the other hand, my husband seemed to gain energy based on his comments about her long legs.
I’m a middle aged heterosexual mom, and I was even commenting on how great her legs looked. The cameraman definitely did something with the angles of the shots for her because its something I normally wouldn’t notice.
@xiggi, I do not judge singing on the basis of hairdo and age. I’m the person who keeps saying that Barry Minniefield, the oldest competitor, should still be there.
I didn’t like the way Meghan sang the song. I think that is a great song, and I didn’t like what she did with it. The fact that her appearance and manner kind of annoys me is simply an aside. It also annoyed me that Tessanne Chin was done up to look significantly older than she is. These people are trying to become popular singers. Having a marketable look and style is part of the deal, and I think it is something the competitors should be trying to develop.
NBA? I won’t be able to give you very good updates … Tall guy number 1 shoots it in, tall guy number 2 dribbles it up the court, shoots it in. Tall guy number 3 looks tall.
Now on the voice, I can describe each person in much more detail. Brunette number 1 with the bangs and short skirt did a great R&B number and threw in some jazz scatting on the 3rd verse. Cute blond country boy was right on pitch and has the tween voters in a frenzy. Blond girl that used to sing country is letting it rip with an old school R&B number and she looks like a doll. Looking forward to tonight’s show! No NBA for me.
