Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Jonri, I believe you are correct about the downloads. I am not certain but I believe the “downloads rule” was revised in 2012, whereby you get rewarded from all the downloads from the previous weeks-- but only if you make the final.

Ok…Sawyer is blowing everybody away again…

I think Meghan is safe.

Everybody else can worry.

Thanks, Dstark. The voters have ears after all! Still think Sawyer could sing the Barney song and score well!

I think it must be sort of hard on singers who have devtoted years to their craft…Meghan, India, Josh…to see some kid like Sawyer come along and blow them away. (Koryn is young too…)

On the other hand… whoever it was who had the task of combing through youtube to see if there were any singers who should be invited to try out and who picked Sawyer ought to be getting a whopping bonus!

Jonri, :).

And jonri gets credit for that link in post 3122. I first saw that link when Jonri posted it.

I listened to the two Sawyer songs. I think he is great. They are both top ten already.

And I listened to Meghan…not for me.

I like Josh but, after hearing both of his songs, think he had a particularly rough night. Adam and his poor song choices in crunch time… once again.

Thought Meghan, my 2nd favorite behind Sawyer, got the wrong song in round 1 but sang it okay. I liked but didn’t love Tennessee Whiskey.

I think India had a good night-- both rounds. For those of you who liked her tonight, I am in agreement. Thought she also stepped it up emotionally.

I thought Joshua and Koryn had the worst nights and I will be surprised if India is in the bottom instead of Koryn.

Oh, and I ALSO  Sawyer!!!

If I had to pick one to go home it would be Josh also. Pleasant just isn’t enough.

Sawyer didn’t totally nail either song for me on the show — the bane of live performance perhaps — but despite imperfect performances he delivers goosebumps. He sounds even better on the iTunes recording.

Time for Koryn to go home. She sounds like she’s seconds away from completely blowing out her vocal cords.

Sawyer’s growing on me, and since everyone else thinks he’s the favorite, I’m about to move into that camp too.

India did a good job, I thought, and I like her, but I don’t find her voice to be as engaging as I’d like it to be. Josh was pretty good, but not outstanding enough to win, IMO. Meghan is very good, but I think sometimes being a semi-pro will hurt the inclination of people to vote for her. Koryn’s voice is nice, but I think she needs some help in her stage presence. Her “gesticulation” during performances distracts me and causes it to look like she’s an hysterical mother pleading for the life of her child with hands trembling and pain on her face. That’s harsh, but its the fact. India and Meghan have some of that too, but a bit less. Showing emotion and commitment requires a fine talent, I think.

After last night, I’ll be surprised if Sawyer doesn’t win (although I was surprised last season with Craig Wayne Boyd, so I’ll stay tuned.)

So can we assume that everyone but Sawyer is competing for runner up?

It would take a miracle for him to lose, unless Pharrell gets bored and borrows a page from Adam’s playbook. Meghan is the second best but she has shown too many holes in her singing to overtake Sawyer. This show is predictable. If history repeats itself, this is where singers like India and Koryn are sent packing. Plenty of similar singers saw that in past years. Joshua is the new Nicholas, except that Nicholas was hardly boring. Josh’s stick is too thin and his performances of last night are really the best he can do in the genre.

The difference with last year? Sawyer is talented, is clean-cut, 9s differently adorable, humble, and has no tattoos. He learned not to try his luck with falsettos he can’t sing.

After CW dominance, let’s get a winner for thé hillbillies.

If The Voice is using the instant save, Sawyer and Meghan are probably safe and India, Josh and Koryn will sing for the instant save. Sawyer has 2 songs in the top 10 right now. With the multiplier, he’s super safe. Meghan has one song that right now. If that holds–it’s at 6 as of 8 am–she’s safe too.

I suspect the homeschool community is voting for Sawyer as well as everyone in upstate NY.

Since this year’s format is different from last year’s, it’s hard to follow the rules. I assume that only one will be eliminated tonight and the four remaining will fight it out next week with three songs, including the silly duets.

The reality is that the finale will be anti-climatic and that whoever goes home tonight makes little difference.

Only one goes home. That means two will sing for the instant save, right? Koryn and India?

If Meghan is smart, she’ll stick to country. It seems like those votes are guaranteed.

Josh’s songs are so soothing, but as he sang last night, “I can’t make you love me.”

If Meghan had stuck to country from the get-go, making wise country song choices, and had they styled her in a more contemporary and age appropriate fashion, I truly believe she could have given Sawyer a closer battle. She clearly is the most talented vocally, but has made some very poor decisions throughout this season, not the least of which is song genre.

Jshain, that is true, but hard CWB stuck to a pure CW base, he might not have won last year. Blake guided him through a number of styles and it worked. I think Meghan’s downfall has been to push the high notes too high.

This said, if she is smart, she ought to curb the screaming and play the CW card like Danielle did. But I think that nobody will catch Sawyer who is running away with perhaps the easiest victory ever on this show.

Meghan did way too much gravelly rock. And looked like she could be meeting me at the local dunkin donuts for coffee in the morning - she has that suburban soccer mom looking going for her and I think she’s only in her mid-20’s.

I really don’t get the Sawyer love on any level. But I have no one else I’d say is being robbed of it because of him.

Tessane Chin won with a similar Soccermom look and a lot less talent than Meghan.

It’s a sign of the weakness of this year that Sawyer gets all the adulation. It’s by default. However, one has to recognize that his different look, voice, and presentation has boosted his chances. He is not a great singer by any stretch of the imagination, but the package is refreshing – in spite of the throwback look. All in all, he will be a sweet winner and one of the few who might find an audience in the nostalgia crowd.

Again, a singer like Eli Mattson was much better, and it did not work that well for him. Bu then, you’ve got “singers” like Iggy Azalea making it. Go figure!

Yep… I agree with all about Meghan “flooring” her vocal gas pedal way too often. She needs to vary her speed more. I don’t get why she feels that she has to do this and why her coach allows it. All 3 remaining ladies all seem to be cut from the same cloth in this regard. Wish there was a female indie singer in the mix.
